UAE leaders face confrontation in London over Sudan conflict allegations

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai and UAE Prime Minister, was confronted by a Sudanese man in London’s Knightsbridge area. The individual accused the UAE of involvement in the ongoing conflict in Sudan, shouting, “Stop killing my people.” The confrontation occurred following a reported meeting between Al Maktoum and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in London.

While the UAE has denied supporting Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), international bodies including the United Nations and the United States have documented alleged arms transfers to the group through networks in Libya, Chad, and Somaliland. The RSF has faced accusations of committing genocide during the conflict that began in April 2023.

Separately, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was observed visiting Mushrif Mall in Abu Dhabi, where he interacted with shoppers and residents at a Lulu Hypermarket.
