Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan acquires stake in Trump crypto venture

Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates national security advisor and brother to the UAE President, has acquired a 49 percent stake in World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency venture linked to the Trump family. The investment was made through StringZ Holding RSC, with reports indicating a $500 million investment that transferred approximately $263 million to entities associated with the Trump family according to 2025 financial disclosures.

World Liberty Financial has received preliminary, conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a federally chartered trust bank. This entity is intended to manage the USD1 stablecoin, handling its issuance, redemption, and custody. Full operations remain subject to meeting additional regulatory requirements.

The deal has raised questions regarding potential conflicts of interest. While the investment is being finalized, the Trump administration is engaged in negotiations with the UAE regarding access to advanced American AI chips. The administration previously approved chip sales to G42, an AI firm supported by the UAE and controlled by Al Nahyan. A spokesperson for World Liberty Financial denied any conflict of interest, stating the company is a private American financial technology firm and not a political organization.
