On 29 July 2026 the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, arrived in Bratislava for a working visit. He held a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, during which the two leaders discussed a series of joint projects.

Key topics included a large infrastructure project on the Danube River in Bratislava, continued cooperation in the defence industry, public‑private partnership initiatives to modernise irrigation in Slovak agriculture, and the prospect of UAE investment in the Slovak spa sector under state control. The parties also sought support for a direct air link between Bratislava and Dubai or Abu Dhabi. In addition, they exchanged views on regional security, focusing on the situation in the Middle East, the Strait of Hormuz and the conflict in Ukraine, reaffirming support for UN Security Council Resolution 2817.

The visit builds on the Slovak Prime Minister’s official trip to the UAE in October 2025 and reflects a widening of bilateral economic ties and strategic dialogue.
