UAE releases frozen Iranian assets and gold to avoid attacks
The United Arab Emirates has reportedly released several billion dollars of Iran’s frozen assets held in Emirati banks to prevent the country from being targeted in future attacks. According to multiple senior Iranian sources, the transfer included approximately two tonnes of gold valued at $283 million.
Flight-tracking data and reports indicate that a UAE-based Royal Jet Boeing 737-7KK (registration A6-RJA) conducted short trips from Abu Dhabi to Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport and Karaj’s Payam Airport on August 11 and 12. This follows a previous reported transfer of $3 billion in June.
In addition to the financial assets and gold, the UAE has reportedly permitted the sale of 15 second-hand passenger aircraft to Iranian airlines. These measures are viewed as attempts to appease Tehran and ensure the UAE is spared from hostilities amid renewed tensions and fighting between the United States and Iran.
