UAE Secures Unrestricted US AI Chip Supply as Iran Tensions Rise

The United States reclassified the United Arab Emirates, placing it with allied nations for the export of advanced artificial‑intelligence chips. The change removes previous licensing hurdles, allowing the UAE’s AI firm G42 and companies such as Microsoft and OpenAI to purchase Nvidia processors without restrictions for at least nine months. The move follows the UAE’s military support for the United States during the ongoing conflict with Iran and has drawn scrutiny over possible conflicts of interest involving members of the Trump family.

At the same time, semiconductor manufacturers are facing higher costs for key chemicals used in chip fabrication. Formosa Plastics Corp and Sheng Yi Electronics have raised prices for hydrofluoric acid and isopropanol, citing surging AI‑chip demand and a strained supply chain that was further stressed by China’s temporary suspension of helium exports. The price increases affect the broader semiconductor industry, which is grappling with tight material supplies as AI‑driven demand continues to grow.
