Mexican students achieve international recognition in science and technology competitions

Several Mexican students have earned top honors at international science and technology competitions. In Paraguay, three students from Aguascalientes secured two gold medals and one silver medal at the Expo Ciencias Aurora 2026. The winning projects included ‘ChipSOYA’, a soy and chia snack designed to improve iron levels, and ‘La voz que no muere’, a multimedia project focused on cultural memory.

In Indonesia, Ángela Karime Venegas Hernández, a high school student from Tamaulipas, won a gold medal for her development of an acoustic fire extinguisher. The device uses sound waves to extinguish small flames, offering a technological alternative to traditional water or chemical extinguishers.

Domestically, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) held its first ‘Reto InnovaTIC’s’ competition, rewarding student prototypes designed to address educational and social challenges. The top honors went to the ‘Sigma’ project from the Faculty of Arts, ‘Aula viva’ from the UAEM Temascaltepec University Center, and ‘PotroPath’ from the Faculty of Engineering.
