UAEMéx implements new institutional caregiving policy

The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) has institutionalized a new strategic priority through its Institutional Policy for the Caregiving University (Universidad Cuidadora). Spearheaded by Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado, the policy aims to integrate a caregiving perspective across academic and administrative management to support the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.

The initiative seeks to address inequalities, noting that 58 percent of the university community is female and that caregiving responsibilities often fall disproportionately on women. By making care a transversal element of teaching, research, and labor life, the university intends to ensure that caregiving duties do not become obstacles to academic or professional development.

Additionally, the university is strengthening its focus on gerontology to address the needs of an aging society. During recent commemorations for National Gerontologist Day, the university recognized academic excellence in the field and announced that its Multidisciplinary Health Clinic will offer free gerontology consultations in September to provide specialized care to the population.
