UAEMéx strengthens earthquake prevention and civil protection

The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) has strengthened its civil protection and prevention strategies in response to the memory of the 1985 and 2017 earthquakes. During a memorial ceremony held at the Faculty of Engineering, Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado emphasized that the lessons learned from these seismic events must be translated into active prevention.

To enhance emergency response capabilities, the university has acquired two new ambulances, 103 seismic alert devices, and 2,821 fire extinguishers. Additionally, a new Central Civil Protection Unit Committee has been sworn in to oversee institutional preparedness and emergency response. This initiative is part of the university's broader transformation into a ‘Caring University’ (Universidad Cuidadora), focusing on the responsible use of resources to safeguard the campus community.
