UAEMéx university reform undergoes legislative analysis in Mexico

The State of Mexico Congress is analyzing a draft reform for the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx). To facilitate this process, Deputy Ruth Salinas Reyes of Movimiento Ciudadano organized a forum titled ‘Challenges of Education in the State of Mexico: University Reform’ to gather input from diverse sectors.

Participants included academics, students, union representatives, journalists, and business leaders. The discussion focused on updating the university's legal framework, which has been based on legislation dating back to March 3, 1992. Key areas of interest include democracy, tuition-free education, budget allocation, academic regimes, and research application.

The reform aims to address modern educational, technological, and social conditions. The legislative project, which is expected to be presented to the LXII Legislature by Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, seeks to bridge the gap between academic study and real-world labor opportunities while addressing previous community demands regarding university governance and rector elections.
