UAJY lecturer files human rights complaint over dismissal

A lecturer from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY), identified as RJ, has filed a complaint with the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) regarding alleged violations of freedom of speech and academic freedom.

Supported by the Yogyakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Yogyakarta), the lecturer claims he was dishonorably dismissed after reporting the suspected use of predatory journals by certain educators within the university. RJ stated that his initial reports to campus officials and the Slamet Rijadi Yogyakarta Foundation were not followed up. After escalating the matter to the Ministry of Research and Higher Education, he faced retaliation, including bullying, delays in promotions, and the withholding of academic rights, ultimately leading to his dismissal.

Predatory journals are defined as scientific publications that prioritize financial gain over academic quality and ethical standards.
