UAP challenges new Italian healthcare tariff decree

The National Union of Clinics, Polyclinics, Entities and Private Hospitals (UAP) has announced a national press conference in Rome to publicly denounce issues regarding the new decree on outpatient specialist and prosthetic assistance tariffs.

The announcement follows the annulment of a previous decree by the TAR Lazio due to serious deficiencies in the investigation and methodology used. While the new measure was intended to resolve these issues, UAP claims it remains unproven that the technical flaws have been addressed, citing ongoing doubts regarding the data and transparency used to determine service rates.

UAP emphasizes that these changes impact the entire National Health Service (SSN), which comprises both public and private accredited structures. According to the association, private accredited facilities account for approximately 17% of SSN spending but provide roughly 28% of hospitalizations, over half of long-term care, and nearly 80% of rehabilitation services. The association warns that reducing the capacity of the private sector will inevitably shift the healthcare demand onto public hospitals, potentially causing service disruptions.
