Mexico electoral authorities formalize technical and organizational agreements

In preparation for the 2026-2027 electoral processes in Mexico, several institutional agreements and political developments have been announced.

In Querétaro, the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) and the Instituto Electoral del Estado de Querétaro (IEEQ) have formalized a collaboration agreement. The UAQ Faculty of Engineering will provide technical and scientific support to the Preliminary Election Results Program (PREP) by participating in the Technical Advisory Committee (COTAPREP). This partnership aims to strengthen the technical component of the electoral process through expertise in applied mathematics and data analysis.

Additionally, the IEE has approved various measures to organize the 2026-2027 State Ordinary Electoral Process. These include a coordination agreement with the National Electoral Institute, the creation of a special commission to oversee the PREP implementation, and the establishment of a system titled ‘Candidatas y Candidatos, Conócelos’ to allow citizens to research candidate profiles.

In Hidalgo, Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar stated that the Morena party's internal instances will define candidacies for the 2027 elections, following the appointment of Adán Augusto López Hernández as political coordinator for the fourth constituency.
