UAQ retirees claim pension payment irregularities
Retired academic workers from the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) have denounced alleged irregularities regarding their pension and benefit payments. According to the retirees, the university has been applying a criteria of complementarity since 2015 that negatively impacts their income.
Representatives of the group, including Salvador Rojas Paredes and José Luis Mendoza, explained that the university is treating payments made by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) as part of the university's own obligation. This practice results in some retirees receiving zero-peso checks from the UAQ if their IMSS pension is deemed to cover their contractual entitlements.
The retirees argue this violates the collective bargaining agreement, which stipulates that the university must pay all benefits established in the contract regardless of any benefits received from social security institutions. Approximately 500 workers are reportedly affected by this situation. The group has expressed a desire to meet with Rector Silvia Amaya Llano following the university's electoral process to seek a legal review and a resolution to these discrepancies.
