UASD and Peruvian Embassy to host Mario Vargas Llosa conference

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and the Peruvian Embassy in the Dominican Republic have announced a joint academic and cultural conference-debate titled 'Mario Vargas Llosa: 90 years after his birth.' The event is designed to reflect on the life, work, and global legacy of the Peruvian Nobel Laureate in Literature.

The initiative follows a meeting between UASD Rector Jorge Asjana David and the Peruvian Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Gustavo Felipe José Lembcke Hoyle, along with Minister Counselor Luis Hernán Delgado Vizcarra. The discussions aimed to strengthen institutional ties and promote academic cooperation.

The conference will feature Dr. Raúl Tola Pedraglio, director of the Mario Vargas Llosa Chair. This chair was founded in 2011 by the International Foundation for Liberty to promote the study of contemporary literature and support new creative works in Ibero-America. The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 16, at the UASD Faculty of Humanities.
