UASD Barahona leads march for mental health awareness
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) Barahona Campus, alongside various social organizations and public institutions, led a march through the streets of Barahona to promote mental health rights. Held in observance of World Mental Health Day, the event operated under the slogan “More services and less prejudice.”
Participants, including university faculty, students, and representatives from the Dominican College of Psychologists and the Ministry of Education, called on national and local authorities to strengthen public mental health policies. The march aimed to increase access to psychological and psychiatric care, combat social stigma, and improve prevention efforts regarding suicide and violence. Leaders emphasized the need for professional accompaniment and specialized attention to ensure quality services for those in need.
