UASD campus elections draw new leadership backing and poll leads
University teachers in the Dominican Republic have rallied behind two competing slates ahead of the internal elections at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). In the Santiago campus, educator José Rodríguez (known as "Chiqui") announced he is suspending his own candidacy to endorse Dr. Luis Balboa for the rector position, emphasizing a strategic agreement to modernise the campus and promote transparent governance.
At the San Francisco de Macorís campus, the Unidad Académica movement released a poll showing its slate leading the vote. The survey gives Jovanny Ortega 54.5% support for the rector role, Antonio Paredes 57.2% for the academic sub‑directorship and Nelly Then 52.6% for the administrative sub‑directorship, each ahead of their nearest rivals. The university-wide elections are scheduled for 17 June.
