UASD commemorates 56th anniversary of Amín Abel Hasbún assassination

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), through its Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, held a ceremony to commemorate the 56th anniversary of the assassination of student leader Amín Abel Hasbún. The event included the laying of a floral offering at a bust erected in his memory.

UASD Rector Jorge Asjana David led the ceremony alongside FIA Dean Mayra Sánchez and Mirna Santos, the widow of Hasbún. Asjana David described Hasbún as a reference point for the university, stating that honoring his memory involves preserving his values and commitment to ideals through critical thinking and the defense of public education.

Dean Sánchez noted that Hasbún was a summa cum laude graduate in Civil Engineering and emphasized that current university freedoms were won through the sacrifices of previous generations. The event also featured a poem by Vice-Rector of Extension Gerardo Roa and remarks from student representative Stalin Quezada.
