UASD expands regional partnerships in Barahona and El Seibo to boost education and local development

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Barahona Chamber of Commerce and Production. The pact aims to strengthen links between academia and the local business sector, support sustainable development in Barahona province and the Enriquillo region, and create programs for training, research, internships and technical assistance for micro‑, small‑ and medium‑size enterprises.

In the eastern municipality of Santa Cruz de El Seibo, UASD has inaugurated new facilities that include a hotel, classroom buildings and an auditorium. Although the campus offers programs in agronomy, bioanalysis, surveying and education, enrollment remains very low, with only nine new students this year. The university is seeking to revitalize the historic site and encourage cultural and academic activity, but faces community disinterest and limited student participation.
