UASD Humanities Faculty candidates advocate participatory university model
Two candidates for dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) outlined their visions for a more participatory university. Ana Jacqueline Ureña called for consolidating a model that engages the academic community and addresses national needs. Ruth Cuevas Aliés emphasized support for the rector’s project led by Dr. Radhamés Silverio, stressing the role of the humanities in critical thinking, ethics and social responsibility amid digital transformation. Both candidates are vying for the 2026‑2030 term, promising reforms in governance, teaching, research and community outreach.
The election reflects broader debates within Dominican higher education about modernization, technology integration and preserving humanistic values in university curricula.
