UASD inaugurates new dairy processing plant and modernizes laboratories
The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) has inaugurated a new dairy processing plant at its Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences. The facility is designed to serve as a 'plant-school' to provide practical training for students and dairy processors throughout the Dominican Republic.
To support this initiative, the National Council for the Regulation and Promotion of the Dairy Industry (CONALECHE) is investing RD$4,719,388.20 through the Project for the Normalization of Dairy Processors (NOPROLAC). Approximately 55.7% of these funds have already been used to install basic equipment and complete infrastructure works. The remaining 44.3% is designated for pending equipment and the expansion of sanitary areas, which is scheduled for completion by September 2026.
In addition to the new plant, UASD is modernizing its Food Composition Laboratory. Rector Jorge Asjana David noted that the upgraded laboratory will enhance research capabilities in specialized fields such as food microbiology, molecular biology, and regenerative agriculture, aiming to better align academic research with the needs of the national productive sector.
