UASD launches Punta Cana campus and diaspora training initiative

The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) is moving to broaden access to higher education in the Dominican Republic. Plans are under way to establish a UASD extension in the tourist hub of Punta Cana, which would allow students from nearby communities such as Verón, Bávaro, Macao and Higüey to study closer to home, lower family expenses, and supply qualified professionals for the local tourism and service sectors. The new campus is also expected to stimulate the regional economy through increased demand for housing, food services and retail.

In parallel, UASD rector Jorge Asjana David met with Dominican consul general Ana Emilia Báez Santana in Marseille, France, to discuss expanding the university’s academic programmes for Dominicans living abroad. The officials outlined initiatives to make UASD’s offerings more accessible to the diaspora, reinforcing institutional cooperation and supporting the professional development of Dominicans overseas.
