Dominican University Autonomous of Santo Domingo (UASD) conducts second‑round elections for rector and senior posts

The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) held its first round of internal elections on 17 June, electing Jorge Asjana David as rector with 66 % of the vote. Because many vicerrectorías, decanatos and campus director positions did not achieve an absolute majority, a second round is scheduled for 2 July to fill the remaining 20 academic and administrative posts.

The second round will decide three vicerrectorías—Administrative, Research & Postgraduate, and Extension—as well as decanatos in Arts, Humanities, Economic and Social Sciences, and Legal‑Political Sciences, among other directorates. Candidates include Ana Rojas, who is poised to become the first woman to direct the Santiago campus, backed by the team of José de Luna, and Carlos Arroyo for sub‑directorship. The election follows the university’s statutes that require a simple majority in the runoff.

The process involves 40 candidates who qualified by winning the most votes in the first round for each position. Voter participation includes faculty and student electors across multiple campuses, with voting open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the election day.
