UAT researches repurposing Gas Burgos industrial waste for construction

The Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) is developing a project to repurpose industrial waste from the Gas Burgos Processing Complex into materials for housing construction. Led by researcher Dr. Gloria Sandoval Flores from the Unidad Académica Multidisciplinaria Reynosa Aztlán (UAMRA), the initiative focuses on the circular economy within cryogenic plants.

The project specifically targets exhausted alumina-silica adsorbents. These materials, composed of aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide, are used in cryogenic processes to dehydrate gas. Once they reach the end of their useful life, they are typically discarded or stored. The research seeks to transform these heat-resistant industrial residues into thermal and resistant materials suitable for the construction sector, potentially reducing the cost of material preparation.

This collaborative effort involves PEMEX, the UAT Faculty of Architecture, and the Instituto Tecnológico de Aguascalientes.
