UATx hosts International Education Congress on formative assessment
The International Education Congress concluded with a keynote address by Dr. Ángel Díaz Barriga, Director of the Center for Educational Research at the Autonomous University of Tlaxcala (UATx). During the session, titled “Teachers facing evaluation and formative evaluation,” Díaz Barriga emphasized that formative assessment is a vital tool that accompanies the student learning process.
He noted that the 2022 study programs for preschool, primary, and secondary education were designed to recover pedagogical-didactic thinking, which had been absent for over 30 years. Díaz Barriga highlighted that primary education allows for easier formative assessment due to the integration of the curriculum, whereas secondary education faces greater systemic and attitudinal barriers. He also advocated for the use of self-assessment and co-evaluation to encourage student reflection, stressing that formative evaluation should maintain an inclusive focus to ensure the right to education for all.
