UBA Foundation holds essay competitions in Ghana and Burkina Faso
The UBA Foundation is conducting its 2026 National Essay Competition (NEC) initiatives across West Africa, focusing on enhancing literacy, critical thinking, and writing skills among secondary school students.
In Ghana, the foundation has opened applications for the 2026 edition, which is available to senior high school students nationwide. The competition aims to address declining literary skills among youth and provides winners with financial assistance for tertiary education. Applications for the Ghanaian competition are scheduled to close on November 13.
In Burkina Faso, the first edition of the NEC concluded with a ceremony in Ouagadougou to celebrate eight winners. The competition drew 1,256 applicants, with students addressing the theme of how the Burkinabè school system should respond to digital transformation. UBA Burkina Managing Director Rasmata Djibo emphasized that the initiative serves as a framework for young people to develop analytical skills and personal argumentation essential for citizenship.
