Ubatuba authorities collect vaccines due to power outages

The Epidemiological Surveillance of Ubatuba (Viep) is conducting the preventive collection of vaccines from health units experiencing power outages or electrical fluctuations. This measure is part of a municipal protocol designed to preserve immunizers, which must be kept within specific temperature ranges to ensure efficacy.

Vaccines removed from affected units are transferred to Viep, which possesses the necessary infrastructure for cold chain maintenance. In the northern region, units from Praia do Félix onwards are currently without power. Other areas, including Rio Escuro, Horto, Araribá, and Lagoinha, have also seen preventive removals due to wind-related electrical issues.

According to coordinator Alyne Ambrogi, the municipality activates a contingency plan during storm alerts or instability risks to collect vaccines as quickly as possible. The network utilizes 24-hour temperature monitoring; any vaccine recorded outside the 2°C to 8°C range is automatically withdrawn from use to prevent the administration of ineffective doses.
