Ubatuba beach shooting leads to three arrests
Three men, aged between 18 and 25, were arrested following a shootout at Praia Grande in Ubatuba, on the northern coast of São Paulo. The incident occurred around 4:47 p.m. on a Monday holiday, causing tourists and beachgoers to flee the area in panic.
Security footage captured the suspects near a kiosk before the gunfire began. One projectile struck the glass of a kiosk, but no injuries were reported. Municipal guards and military police responded to the scene after hearing the shots and observing the crowd's movement.
Authorities seized two .38 caliber revolvers and 13 rounds of ammunition during the operation. One suspect, aged 25, claimed he acted in self-defense against the other two individuals, aged 18 and 21. Initial investigations suggest the 25-year-old was the intended target of the shots. One of the suspects, aged 18, reportedly has a criminal record involving homicide and drug trafficking. The case is being investigated as attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
