Ubatuba health official undergoes training to improve mortality data coding

Alyne Ambrogi, the coordinator of Epidemiological Surveillance in Ubatuba, participated in a specialized training program in São Paulo focused on improving the selection and coding of causes of death using the International Classification of Diseases (CID-10).

The training, conducted within the framework of the Mortality Information System (SIM) and the Live Birth Information System (SINASC), covered procedures for analyzing death certificates, using the CID-10 volumes, and utilizing the Basic Cause Selector (SCB). The curriculum included practical exercises on various scenarios, such as maternal and perinatal mortality, surgical procedures, external causes, neoplasms, AIDS, H1N1, and Covid-19.

Accurate identification of the basic cause of death—the disease or injury that initiated the sequence of events leading to death—is essential for producing reliable mortality statistics and analyzing the health status of the population.
