Rio de Janeiro municipalities host diverse sporting and community events

Various municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro are hosting diverse community, sporting, and safety initiatives.

In Niterói, the city is establishing itself as a major event hub, having hosted over 100,000 visitors through scientific, cultural, and sporting gatherings. The recent inauguration of the Arena Niterói has further bolstered this capacity. Additionally, the Itacoatiara Big Wave competition has entered a state of alert, with organizers monitoring sea conditions for a potential big-wave surfing event featuring international athletes.

Ubatuba is focusing on both sports and safety. The Ubatuba Pro Surf 2026 season is launching at Praia Grande, featuring approximately 200 competitors across various age groups. Simultaneously, the local Civil Defense is collaborating with residents and the Namaskar Project to implement a Community Risk Reduction Plan for the Rio Acaraú basin, utilizing technical data to mitigate environmental risks.

In Angra dos Reis, the ‘Natal sem Fome’ (Christmas without Hunger) event utilized football to promote social engagement and community solidarity during the holiday season.
