Ubatuba receives federal recognition of emergency status after windstorm

The Brazilian federal government has officially recognized the state of emergency in Ubatuba following a severe windstorm that struck the municipality in August 2026. The recognition was formalized through Ordinance No. 2,971 by the National Secretariat for Civil Protection and Defense, under the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development.

This federal action validates the local emergency status previously decreed by the Ubatuba City Hall on August 18, 2026. The classification of the event as a windstorm under the Brazilian Classification and Coding of Disasters (Cobrade) allows the municipality to move forward in requesting federal financial and technical support to address the impacts of the climate event.

Wagner da Silva, the head of government, stated that the recognition is a vital step for advancing administrative procedures to secure resources for recovering affected areas.
