Ubatuba surf team competes at US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach

Ubatuba, Brazil, was represented in the second stage of the World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series and the first stage of the Longboard Tour at the Lexus US Open of Surfing, held in Huntington Beach, California from July 26 to August 3. The event is part of the international surf calendar and counts toward world rankings.

Brazilian surfers Gabriel Klaussner advanced to the round of 16 and is scheduled to race against American Taj Lindblad. Wesley Dantas reached the round of 32, finishing third with 12.10 points, while Ryan Kainalo was eliminated in the first round. City officials highlighted Ubatuba’s reputation as a leading Brazilian surf hub; Sports and Leisure Secretary Saulo Souza said, “Ubatuba is considered one of the main surf nurseries in Brazil, and it is a satisfaction to see our athletes taking the city’s name abroad and competing in the WSL, aiming for the elite of world surf.”
