Ubatuba surfers compete in national youth and WSL professional events

Athletes from Ubatuba are making significant appearances in both youth and professional surfing competitions. In the Surf Brasil Base 2026, six surfers from Ubatuba—Kalani Robles, Kailani Rennó, Keoni Rennó, Maeva Guastalla, Catarina Kobayashi, and Gabriela Rigo—are representing São Paulo at the national championship in Navegantes, Santa Catarina. The competition includes 106 surfers from 13 states and serves as a pathway for selection into the 2027 Brazilian Junior National Team.

In professional surfing, three Ubatuba athletes are competing in the World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series at Maresias beach in São Sebastião. Weslley Dantas currently leads the Challenger Series rankings, while Ryan Kainalo holds fifth place. Gabriel Klaussner is positioned 13th, closely trailing the top 10 cutoff. This stage of the series is a critical component of the race to qualify for the 2027 Championship Tour, the highest division in professional surfing.
