Ubatuba faces storm warnings and significant parking fee increases

Ubatuba, a prominent coastal destination in Brazil, is facing several developments regarding weather, tourism, and local regulations. The National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) has issued a potential danger storm warning for the area, forecasting rainfall between 20 and 50 mm per day, winds of 40 to 60 km/h, and possible hail. While the risk of power outages or flooding is considered low, residents are advised to avoid standing under trees or parking near transmission towers.

In terms of local policy, the municipal government has announced a 150% increase in 'Zona Azul' parking fees, effective October 9. Rates for the beach zones will rise from R$ 20 to R$ 50 for a 12-hour period, while certain urban sectors will increase from R$ 2 to R$ 5 per hour. The Empresa Municipal de Desenvolvimento Urbano (Emdurb) stated the adjustment is necessary for operational sustainability and improved enforcement.

On the tourism front, Datafolha research indicates Ubatuba is becoming a preferred beach destination for residents of São Paulo, ranking ahead of several Northeast destinations. This follows broader national weather trends where INMET predicts irregular rainfall for October, with the Northeast potentially facing below-average precipitation and higher temperatures.
