UBEC rehabilitates Lagos school for girls and young mothers
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has commissioned the rehabilitated Alternative High School for Girls in Agboju, Lagos State. The facility is designed to provide a second chance for girls and young women whose education was interrupted by socio-economic challenges, poverty, or early pregnancy.
UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba stated that the school aims to offer an alternative pathway for those unable to continue through conventional systems. In addition to academic studies, the institution provides vocational training in areas such as cosmetology, garment-making, hairdressing, and catering to foster self-reliance.
The project, funded through UBEC’s direct intervention, was praised by officials as an effort to restore hope and build confidence among vulnerable learners. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and follows long-standing advocacy for girls' empowerment by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
