UBEC launches 10-year roadmap for basic education reform
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is set to begin implementing its 10-year Universal Basic Education Roadmap, spanning 2026 to 2035, in the first week of October. The initiative aims to transition from isolated, disconnected school projects to a “whole school approach” to basic education development.
During a consultative workshop in Abuja, UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba announced that states must now assess the comprehensive needs of individual schools before intervention plans can be approved. This new framework is designed to prevent the practice of providing partial solutions, such as constructing classrooms or supplying furniture without addressing other essential facilities like fencing or toilets.
As part of this reform, UBEC unveiled the Basic Education Action Plan Management System (BEAPMS), a digital platform intended to enhance planning, transparency, and the monitoring of basic education projects across the country.
