Uber and Australian Red Cross partner for annual clothing drive

Uber and the Australian Red Cross have partnered for the eighth annual Uber x Australian Red Cross Clothing Drive. On Saturday, October 17, between 10am and 4pm, Uber will provide free doorstep clothing collection services for residents in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Participants can book a pickup via the Uber or Uber Eats app to donate pre-loved items, provided the bags or boxes do not exceed 20 kg. The collected clothing will be sold in Red Cross shops nationwide to fund various charity programs. The initiative aims to provide convenience for donors, particularly older individuals who may find it difficult to visit physical charity shops.

Melanie C, the former Spice Girl, is supporting the drive by donating iconic pieces from her personal archive, including a black Gucci dress and a grey sequin suit. Research commissioned by Uber indicates that 87 per cent of Australians hold onto clothes they never wear, often accumulating significant value in unworn wardrobes.
