Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi defends demanding weekend work culture

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has sparked debate regarding the company’s workplace culture after stating that employees are expected to remain responsive to communications on weekends.

Khosrowshahi described Uber’s environment as “really demanding” and cautioned that individuals looking to “coast” may not be a good fit for the organization. He noted that part of maintaining a strong work ethic involves weekend communication, such as sending emails on Saturdays or following up on Sundays if a response is not received.

While Khosrowshahi stated that employees who do not meet performance expectations are provided with feedback and opportunities to improve, he indicated that they could eventually be asked to leave if performance does not change.
