Uber COO discusses potential workforce reduction via AI

Uber COO Andrew Macdonald has suggested that while the company is pursuing new business ventures, artificial intelligence could allow the firm to maintain its current scope of operations with fewer employees in five years.

Macdonald noted that certain roles—specifically in customer support, sales, content creation, and data analysis involving routine outputs—are highly susceptible to being augmented or partially replaced by AI. However, he cautioned against definitive predictions of mass job losses, noting that historical trends have shown employment expanding even as technology advances.
