Uber cuts 3,300 jobs and implements strict hybrid work policy
Uber is implementing a global restructuring plan that includes cutting approximately 3,300 corporate jobs, representing about 10% of its worldwide workforce. The layoffs primarily target management and coordination roles to reduce organizational layers and streamline decision-making.
Alongside the workforce reduction, the company is enforcing a strict hybrid work policy. Uber will cap fully remote roles at just 1% of its staff and mandate that employees work at least three days per week in the office. The company is also transitioning to a hub-based model, requiring staff to be located near designated regional, tech, or country hubs. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that in-person collaboration is more effective for problem-solving.
In Washington state, the restructuring affects 93 employees, including software engineers and product managers in the Seattle area. Affected staff will receive pay and benefits through November 2, 2026. The company noted that these job losses are permanent and not the result of relocating or contracting out operations.
