Uber wins dismissal of £340 million London taxi driver lawsuit

Uber has successfully won a bid to have two major class-action lawsuits dismissed in London’s High Court. The legal actions, brought by approximately 13,000 black cab drivers and two former private hire companies, Kabbie and Iride, sought total damages of roughly £340 million (over €400 million).

The claimants alleged that Uber provided “misleading and inaccurate information” to Transport for London (TfL) when securing its private hire operator licence in 2012, which they argued allowed the company to unfairly undercut traditional taxi drivers.

However, Judge Simon Birt dismissed the claims on the grounds of the statute of limitations. The ruling stated that the claimants could have discovered the alleged deception before 2018, meaning the lawsuits were filed beyond the six-year legal limit for such claims. Consequently, the court did not examine the merits of the allegations.

While Uber expressed satisfaction that the matter is now resolved, representatives for the claimants, managed by RGL Management, expressed disappointment and indicated they are considering further legal options.
