Uber displays higher-priced options first in Dominican Republic
In the Dominican Republic, the Uber application has been observed prioritizing its most expensive service tier, Uber Select, at the top of search results. In a comparison conducted on Wednesday, October 21, an Uber Select trip was listed at RD$496.49, while the UberX option for the same route was significantly cheaper at RD$136.26.
Beyond the price difference of RD$360.23, the premium option also showed a longer estimated wait time of seven minutes compared to three minutes for UberX. Other available categories visible upon scrolling include Priority, Comfort, Black, Uber Planet, and Wait & Save, as well as motorcycle services and UberXL.
Uber’s help center states that trip costs depend on distance, duration, demand, and driver availability. The company notes that passengers can view the full list of services, including various categories, prices, and estimated pickup times, by scrolling through the options before confirming a ride.
