Uber driver detained in Quintana Roo for alleged tourist extortion

Authorities in Quintana Roo have detained a Cuban Uber driver, identified as Teodoro “N”, following a traffic altercation with security forces on Cancun Avenue. The driver was reportedly speeding and nearly collided with a patrol vehicle before behaving aggressively toward officers.

Upon his arrest, it was confirmed that the individual faced direct accusations of fraudulent charging, specifically involving an improper payment of 20,000 pesos from foreign tourists. This incident follows similar reports of fare abuse in the region, including a previous case in Playa del Carmen where a driver was suspended for allegedly threatening a passenger to force a higher payment.
