Uber reports surging Macau taxi trips and plans Hong Kong licence application

Uber has reported a significant increase in its Macau Meter Taxi service, with completed trips in July rising more than fivefold compared to its launch period in February. The platform, which allows users to book licensed taxis through the app, currently works with an average of nearly 1,000 active partner drivers each month.

Data indicates that Hong Kong residents are the largest source market for Uber riders in Macau. Demand has surged during major local events, such as large-scale concert series, which drive high volumes of transportation requests.

In response to new regulatory frameworks, Uber's Hong Kong general manager, Estyn Chung, announced that the company intends to submit its operator’s licence application in Hong Kong by the end of October. The company is working to comply with government requirements regarding service history and order volume to formalize its operations in the city.
