Uber sells all shares in Serve Robotics amid partnership impasse
Uber has sold its entire stake in Serve Robotics, a sidewalk delivery robot company it previously incubated through Postmates. According to SEC filings, Uber had been working to reduce its ownership for over a year, with plans to lower its stake in 2025.
The divestment comes amid a deteriorating partnership. While Serve Robotics saw 17 consecutive quarters of increasing delivery volume through Uber, that trend reversed in the second quarter of 2026 due to lower-than-expected robot utilization.
The two companies have reached an impasse regarding deployment strategies for Serve’s fleet of up to 2,000 robots. While the partnership agreement is set to expire in early 2027, reports suggest Serve Robotics was considering not renewing the deal. This shift marks a significant change in Uber’s autonomous delivery strategy, which it has been building since the $2.65 billion acquisition of Postmates in 2020.
