Uber to cut 10% of global workforce in restructuring

Uber is reducing its global workforce by approximately 10 percent, affecting roughly 3,300 to 3,400 employees. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the decision via an internal memo, stating the move is part of a major restructuring plan designed to streamline management layers and accelerate decision-making.

The restructuring aims to reduce the number of managers by 20 percent and significantly decrease the number of small teams consisting of only one or two employees. The company intends to refocus resources on its core ride-hailing, delivery, and robotaxi businesses. Khosrowshahi noted that rapid growth over the past five years created organizational complexities, including excessive layers and fragmented ownership that are no longer suitable for the company's current scale.

While some roles will be eliminated, some managers may be transitioned into individual contributor roles. Although the layoffs will impact various regions, including India, Uber representatives emphasized that India remains a critical market for the company's operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
