Uberlândia Airport expansion faces investigation over supplier payment delays
The expansion of the Tenente-Coronel Aviador César Bombonato Airport in Uberlândia has become a subject of debate in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG). A public hearing has been scheduled to address allegations from suppliers regarding unpaid debts following the completion of the infrastructure project.
Contractors involved in various stages of the expansion reported financial difficulties, including compromised cash flow and the risk of layoffs, due to alleged non-payment. The works were executed by Matec Engenharia, which was contracted by the airport administrator, Aena Brasil.
State deputies requested the hearing to clarify the responsibilities of the companies involved and to determine if further action from oversight and control bodies is necessary. Representatives from Aena Brasil, Matec Engenharia, the Uberlândia City Hall, and the Public Ministry are expected to participate in the discussions.
