Uberlândia reports deflation in August 2026 and rising tax revenues

Uberlândia recorded a deflation of 0.38% in August 2026, according to the Consumer Price Index (IPC-CEPES). This decline is more pronounced than the 0.15% deflation seen in July. The primary drivers for the price reduction were the housing sector, which fell by 1.83% due to lower residential electricity costs, and the food and beverage sector, which dropped by 0.75%. Conversely, personal expenses and transportation saw price increases.

The monthly cost of the basic food basket in Uberlândia fell to R$ 708.28 in August 2026, a 2.79% decrease from the previous month.

In terms of municipal finances, Uberlândia reported a 7.6% increase in tax revenue for 2025, totaling R$ 3.859 billion. The Service Tax (ISS) was the primary driver of this growth, followed by Property Tax (IPTU), Income Tax withheld at source (IRRF), and Real Estate Transfer Tax (ITBI). Economists attribute this revenue growth to a warming local productive sector, increased labor market formalization, and new business openings.
