Ubisoft announces Rainbow Six Tactics turn-based strategy game

Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, a new single-player, turn-based tactical strategy game. Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, the title marks a significant genre shift for the franchise, moving away from its traditional first-person shooter roots toward a gameplay style reminiscent of XCOM.

Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the game is set within the existing Rainbow Six Siege timeline, specifically between Year 10 and Year 11. Players will take on the role of Six, the commander of Team Rainbow, portrayed by Paul Bishop, a character from Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. The gameplay loop involves managing a headquarters to analyze intelligence and upgrade the base, followed by deploying squads of up to four operators on missions such as hostage rescues and bomb disposals.

The game features a roster of 15 operators from Rainbow Six Siege, each with unique abilities, gadgets, and skill trees. Tactical elements include destructible environments and a “Breach” mechanic that allows for synchronized assaults. Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will not include microtransactions or live-service monetization. Rainbow Six Tactics is scheduled for release in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with availability on Ubisoft+, GeForce Now, and Blacknut.
