Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sells 2 million copies, hits Steam record

Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sold 2 million copies within its first 24 hours, making it the franchise’s strongest launch. The remake also set a new Steam record for the series, reaching a peak of 99,451 concurrent players on launch day.

Critical reception was largely positive, with scores of 85 % on OpenCritic and 84 % on Metacritic, while player reviews on Steam were mixed, largely due to the presence of multiple paid DLC packs and micro‑transactions. Some regions, notably China, generated a wave of low‑rating review bombing, and a technical issue limited cutscene framerates to 30 fps under certain graphics settings.

Amid the commercial success, Ubisoft announced a restructuring that affected 51 employees at its Barcelona studio, reflecting broader cost‑cutting measures despite the game’s strong performance. A musical tie‑in was also released, with VISIONS OF ATLANTIS and SALTATIO MORTIS recording a new version of the sea shanty “Reckless Sailor (Black Flag Rises)” to accompany the launch.
