Ubisoft considers future for Watch Dogs franchise
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the Watch Dogs franchise remains an important brand for the company's future, despite the series being on hiatus since the 2020 release of Watch Dogs: Legion.
During a recent investor meeting, Guillemot noted that the IP is not currently assigned to any of the company's new 'creative houses' because the studio is evaluating its situation before potentially undergoing a remake or relaunch. While some reports suggest this refers to a full remake of the original title, others indicate it may simply mean the franchise will be revitalized with a new team in the future.
Reports from Insider Gaming and other sources suggest that Ubisoft may be preparing a 'Director's Cut' of Watch Dogs: Legion, potentially slated for release in the first half of 2027. This version is rumored to include updated motion capture, new missions, and visual improvements such as a dedicated night mode. Approximately 100 developers from Ubisoft Montreal are reportedly involved in the project. This move is seen as a way to test market interest in the franchise before committing to a full new installment.
